Goodreads summary
Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friend since childhood, she is more disturbed by her "power" to sense dead bodies—or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes that the dead leave behind in the world... and the imprints that attach to their killers.
Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift; it mostly just led her to find the dead birds her cat had tired of playing with. But now that a serial killer has begun terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he's claimed haunt her daily, she realizes she might be the only person who can stop him.
Despite his fierce protectiveness over her, Jay reluctantly agrees to help Violet on her quest to find the murderer—and Violet is unnerved to find herself hoping that Jay's intentions are much more than friendly. But even as she's falling intensely in love, Violet is getting closer and closer to discovering a killer... and becoming his prey herself

My
thoughts
I love murder mystery books. I don't
really know why, I think it might be because every murder mystery is really
fast paced and suspenseful. This book was all that and more. The plot in this
book is really fast paced but not too fast paced where I could not keep up with
it. The whole story line was wonderful. What was really awesome about this book
was how every other chapter was told in the killer’s point of view. I got
chills when I read the first chapter in his point of view....no actually; I got
chills whenever I read in his point of view.
The characters where pretty good, although Violet got on my nerves every now on again. She was just so frustrating, you know that part in the book or movie where you're screaming don't go in the closet, but of course they go in the closet and then ohh... surprise there's the killer. However, the best character in this book was Jay. He was so nice and caring and he supported Violet with everything but trying to catch the killer.
What I really loved in this book was
the relationship between Jay and Violet. Even though the book starts out with
Violet having a huge crush on Jay, it's not cheesy or like insto love, because
they knew each other book for the book starts. I really think that made this
relationship from being really cheesy. However, it had its down side, since
they know each other before the book began, I did not get to read how the
relationship went to just friends to huge super crush. So, I am sorry to say
the relationship did not feel real to me, when Violet realizes that she loves
Jay I didn't feel like that was real.
However, that was the only bad thing
about this book, the best thing about this book was the writing. Kimberly
Derting is a fantastic writer. I love her writing style and I love all of her
books. She is just awesome.
All in all this was a really good book that had a suspenseful plot, characters that where really good, and a writing style that was brilliant.
