Review: The Boy Most Likely To by Huntley Fitzpatrick

GradeGrade: 4 Butterflies

Goodreads Summary

Tim Mason was The Boy Most Likely To:
- find the liquor cabinet blindfolded
- need a liver transplant
- drive his car into a house

Alice Garrett was The Girl Most Likely To:
- well, not date her little brother’s baggage-burdened best friend, for starters.

For Tim, it wouldn’t be smart to fall for Alice. For Alice, nothing could be scarier than falling for Tim. But Tim has never been known for making the smart choice, and Alice is starting to wonder if the “smart” choice is always the right one. When these two crash into each other, they crash hard.

Then the unexpected consequences of Tim’s wild days come back to shock him. He finds himself in a situation that isn’t all it appears to be, that he never could have predicted . . . but maybe should have.

And Alice is caught in the middle.

I was so excited for this book to release! I loved My Life Next Door so much and I could not wait for Tim and Alice’s story. Overall, this book was delightful to read! I loved the story so much and the characters were so wonderful to read! I was blown away especially by Tim’s character arc and story. However, there were two things that seemed out of place.

First, I loved these characters so much! I love reading about the Garrett family and their life. I love it because it’s almost as if you are right there with them. You are sitting in that kitchen with all of them, you are in the midst of their family and it’s great to read! It also says a lot about how good the writing is because that is hard to do.

I especially loved Tim in this book. In the first book we learned that he was an amazing writer and his sister was taking his speeches. I loved his character arc so much! He started out as a very self-pitying self-destructive man and he develops and changes. It was so great to read! It was also so heartwarming! I can’t really explain why this is though because it’s a twist that happens early on and effects the whole story.  However, it is why I loved this book so much!

This book is about Alice’s life and Tim’s life and how/where they intersect. Alice’s is almost drowning because of her Dad’s injury. This was very interesting to read and I loved how that impacted and grew Alice’s character.  However, it often felt like Alice’s character and story were greatly overshadowed by Tim and his story. Half of Alice’s chapters didn’t really focus on her family problems or even went deep into her character; they instead focused on her relationship with Tim. It seemed like everything was centered and focused on Tim and his story. Which was fine and great, but it almost made Alice’s POV seem redundant and put a distance between the reader and Alice.

The last thing I want to talk about is how disjointed the love story between Alice and Tim felt. It almost felt like we jumped into the middle of their relationship. Which, to be fair, we did. This is a sequel to My Life Next Door. However, that one was through the eyes of Sam and Jase. So, even then we never saw the beginning of Alice and Tim’s relationship through their eyes. This just made the story feel….. weird. They were already half way in love and it almost felt like they were an inside joke that we the readers weren’t part of. It just didn’t flow well. Also, I think this aspect prevented me from getting emotionally invested in their relationship. I felt for Tim and I felt for Alice and for both of their lives, but when they were put together I couldn’t have cared less.

Even though the love story felt a little out of place, this was still such a great contemporary! I loved it! What really stole was the twist that happened with Tim. Again, I can’t say what it is because it’s a spoiler, but it was so freaking wonderful to read!! I loved! It warmed my heart so much and I loved how it helped Tim’s character develop. Even if you don’t like many contemporaries I would still recommend this book because of this twist.
