Biggest betrayal in the series?

It has to be Snape's betrayal to Voldemort. Snape was so close to Volemort and was probably his most trusted Death Eater and when I learned that Snape was a double agent I could barely believe it! I was just baffled at how someone so close to him could actually be good. I also chose this because at how good an actor Snape had to be to pull it off. He had to be perfect when pretending to be on Voldemort's side, no one could doubt him, no would could even think for a second Snape was anything but a Death Eater. And the fact that he pulled that off so flawlessly amazes me.

Also, maybe the moment when we are told about Lily and Snape's falling out and what happened. I just can never really understand why Snape called her a "filthy Moodblood". She was defending him and he repaid her by embarrassing her in front of their peers.

Happy reading

  1. Yup, finding out Snape had been lying to Voldemort all along was HUGE. You have to have pretty mad skills to dupe the Dark Lord himself! Every single day his life was a risk and he still managed to pull it off flawlessly. Old Voldy never saw it coming, take that! Great pick Kimberly ^^

  2. Yeah, I agree with the surprise of just how devious and innately clever he was at hiding his real feelings for all those years. The depths of his first betrayal (of Lily) impacts him so deeply that it allows him to then double-cross and betray pretty much everything he thought he believed in. It's probably one of the most powerful revelations of the whole series. Great pick! Here's my HP MOTW.

  3. I remember all of the theories floating around before Deathly Hallows that Snape was a double agent, and I wasn't one of the believers. So Snape definitely fooled me, lol! He really was an expert at Occlumency, keeping his thoughts hidden from Voldemort like that!
