Goodreads summary

Anna Whitt, the daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a vow. She’d been naive about a lot of things.

Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.

When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?

I find writing reviews for sequels very hard, especially this one. I really don't know why, but I really straggle to write reviews for sequels. This review took a week to write, I usually take 30 minutes to write a review. So, on to my review.

As you most likely know I love, just LOVE Sweet Evil and Sweet Peril was my most anticipated book of 2013. I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. I finally got it and read it within 24 hours and loved it!! It was just as good, if not better then Sweet Evil.

This book will take you on a journey throughout the life of Anna. It will leave you breathless, shocked to the core and wanting, needing more. It will make a tidal pool of emotions, from joy that fills your body with light, to rage, to soul crashing sadness. This book is just outstanding!

This book is set 6 months after the events of Sweet Evil and throughout that time Anna has, in the view of her peers, turned into a party girl. When I read this in the summary I was extremely nervous. Why I loved Anna was how sweet and nice she was and I was afraid that her character changed into someday jaded in that 6 months. I am so glad that that was not the cause. After I realized that it wasn't the cause I really loved how the author made her work, because she isn't as Innocent and naive as she was in Sweet Evil. She is still nice and just a great person, but she is more realistic now.

I still loved Anna and all of the characters in this one. And this book does give all of the other Nephs a lot more depths. We see more of their life and their past and all this stuff that just gives them depth. And in some scenes you really just felt for the characters with how much they been through and are going through.

I did have some issues with how it was written when I was reading it. You know how in the end of the first book there was a lot of time skips. It would be Halloween and the next chapter it's Christmas. That happened in the beginning of this, it would be summer, then fall, then winter, then spring, then finally summer again and it stopped there. I got a little frustrated with this, but I have a feeling that that was the authors intent. Like, she wanted the beginning to just tease you. And it was also good, because as time moved Anna matured and it really helped emphasis her relationship with Kaiden. Which is good, because in the beginning I got annoyed on how she got so starry eyed with Kai. So, in the end I really like how the author did it, but as I was reading it I got a little frustrated with how the author just teased us.

Also, for a book where the main plot is going around the world to talk to other nephs into joining them they didn't really talk to a lot of nephs. It was just two different nephs, I was expecting a lot more than that and was disappointed with it.

Besides that the plot was fantastic. It was fast paced and suspenseful and it was a rollercoster of emotions. One scene would break your heart on so many levels, especially the scene in the beginning when she was moving away from Kai. And the next scene would warm your heart. This plot was just so good!!! I couldn't get enough of it!

I don't usually talk about the writing in reviews, but Mrs. Higgins really deserves it. She was able to write a book that has so many levels to it. It's a love story one second, then its a story about standing up for yourself and your cause. It breaks your heart one second and the next fixes it up with a bow, and just repeat that. She was able to make all of these characters and put so much depth into them not many authors can do that as while as she could. She is such a great writer.

Also, when I started it I was a little nervous on the maybe love triangle, even though I read a post on the authors website saying that there isn't a love triangle. I was still nervous, but shes right. While Kope does have feelings for Anna, Anna doesn't return those feelings. She is attracted to him, but never loved him more than a friend. She always loved Kai and could never get past that. So, while it did have the premise of becoming a love triangle, I'm glad the author didn't take the final step, because it added a tragic element to the story.

I feel like I didn't convey how much I love this book in this review, but I really do. It was all kinds of amazing! It provoked so much emotion and you really just felt for the characters. And the plot was fantastic! I just love this series and this book was really outstanding!! I loved it!! I can't wait for the next one to come out!!! Read this series now! It's that good.

  1. Hey Kimberly!! Great review. I have both of these books on my TBR list. You have done an awesome job writing this review. It is always harder to write a review for the second book as you are trying not to give too much away, but I think you have done the book justice!! Well done and I'm glad you liked it so much, I'll have to bump it up my list!!

And you have Disqus working!! You didn't need me at all, not that I did anything really! The loading of comments takes time, but you got there!! Whoo hoo

  2. Thank you :D. And it is a lot more harder to write reviews for sequels, like I said up there. Not just, because of not wanting to spoil anything, but also, because for me I don't have a lot of thoughts about them, unless the author did something really special with the plot and the characters. If not and its just a solid sequel that I enjoyed then I just don't have a lot to say. You know what I mean?

You helped a lot :D. And the comments synced a lot faster then I thought so I'm happy about that. However, it did mess some of them up, like it didn't considered my replies to be replies and put them in the feed. So, if you just scroll through my latest StS all my replies would be there, not by the comments they reply, but cauterized on when they where written. Oldest, newest, ect. But besides that I'm loving Disqus :D,

  3. Don't worry too much about the old comments, just know the ones from now on will be perfect. I dwelled on the old comments too much when I first switched, so I know how you feel!! But I'm glad I sticked with it!!
