Q: What writing device or trick most irritates you when reading a book? For example, if an author employs an omnipotent narrator that is sometimes considered bad form.

I don't really get annoyed easily when it come to things authors do. There is a lot of things I hate that publishers do, but not much when it comes to authors. The closet I can say is when an author writes a book with very little dialog, because I love dialect and I get bored reading a book where most of it is internal dialog. However, I don't get annoyed when that happens, I just get really, really bored.

That is my answer, what is your's?
Happy reading.

A white werewolf.

Lupine syndrome--also known as the werewolf virus--is on the rise across the country. Many of the infected try to hide their symptoms, but bloodlust is not easy to control.

Wanting desperately to put an end to her nightmares, Mac decides to investigate Amy's murder herself. Mac is thrown into a maelstrom of violence and betrayal that puts her life at risk.

My thoughts

I loved this book. I loved this book so much!! This book has everything that a good book should have, from completely realistic and lovable characters, to a  suspenseful and page turning pot line, and just wonderful writing that put this book together and blew my mind.

I loved this book (if you couldn't tell by now). I got this book from the library and I didn't pick it up right away, because I was kind of sick of werewolf books. One day I was bored so I picked this book up and couldn't put it down! I stayed up till 1 o'clock at night just so I could finish this book. That is how good it was.

One of the things that made the book really good even though I am tired of werewolf books, is that the author wrote it differently than the other werewolf books I have read.

The thing the author did to make this book different than the other werewolf books was that everyone knows about werewolves in this book. Almost all of the werewolf books I have read were about a person either learning about the existence of werewolves and having to keep it a secret or that person already knows about werewolves and something threatens their secret. This book wasn't like, because in this book a few years ago the President told the country that there was a virus that turns people into werewolves.

One other thing that made the plot so good was that right as I started to get bored and knowing where the book was leading, then BAM!! Something would happen that would get me excited again and totally blow my thoughts about where the book was headed to dust. There was so many twists and turns that I didn't see coming, that I was kept on my toes though out this whole book.

The characters in this book where really realistic and just wonderful. The main character in this book was so relatable and understandable, because in every decision she made I understood and I caught myself thinking a lot of times that I would do the some thing.

The one bad thing about this book was that it had a love triangle. However, this love triangle felt real, because she knew both guys for three years. Even though it felt real it still annoyed me, because I am so sick and tired of love triangles.

All in all, this was a incredible book that I would recommend to everybody. I can't wait for the second book.

This book got...

4.5 Butterflies
Beautiful, this is a great book.
Recommened if you like werewolves, supspenseful plot, and love triangles.

Thats my review, I hope you liked it.
Happy reading.

The Dark Fae by Terry Spear

Grade: 3 Butterflies
Name: The Dark Fae
Author: Terry Spear
Released: October 30th 2011
Publisher: Createspace
Page Amount: 152 pages

                                             Goodreads Summary

Alicia's always known she's different--that she can recognize the mischievous fae when they show up to "play" with the humans. Only now she's faced with one highly annoyed dark fae and she's certain he knows the truth about her. She can see him, which means her life is forfeit.

Add to that, his sister arrives, who wants to play, too. And their mother, the queen of the Denkar, will want Alicia's head, once she learns what Alicia can do.

And all because Alicia was attempting to rescue her friend, Cassie, on their beach excursion at South Padre Island, from the wicked fae. Now, Alicia has really gone and done it--and she's thinking she should have let the fae have his fun. Her friend's broken heart would be a lot easier to deal with, than Alicia losing her life.

But it is too late for regrets. As soon as she threw the soda at the dark fae's chest, she had declared war on the fae. And he is happy to take up the challenge.

                                      *********************

My thoughts

When I picked this book up I was expecting a very deep faerie book. What I got was the exact opposite. This book was a really light read, the characters where very likable, the plot was quick and fun , and the writing style was good.
The plot in this book was really fast paced, there was never a dull moment, and I finished it the some day I started it
However, there was a huge plot hole in this book. So, let me get this straight, Alicia was taught since birth that if the Fae knows she can see them then they will kill her, but then when she finally encounters a Fae, she can't even pretend that she can't see them. You would think after 17 years of being taught that they will KILL you, that you would at least be able to pretend that you can't see them a little bit better.
Another thing that really annoyed me was that Alicia talked like she was in the 1700's and I hate it when authors do that.
One more thing, the relationship between Deveron and Alicia felt really thrown in there and fake.
All in all, this was a really fun read, but you can't really get serious with it. So, this is a summery kind of book.

This book gets...

3 butterflies
Basic, nothing special.
Recommended if you want a quick and fast summery kind of book

That is my review, I hope you liked it.

"Sir" she called out. "Lord Bradford."
He turned. His eyes lit up, seeing Azalea. "Thank you," said Azalea.
Lord Bradford bowed deeply, removing his hat, which re-rumpled his hair. When he straightened, he was smiling, as crooked as his cravat, and Azalea couldn't help but smile back.

Q: When you step out of your USUAL genre what do you like to read? Best books in that genre?

My usual genre is paranormal romance, high fantasy, and dystopian. Almost all my books in my bookshelf are from one of those genres. I will never get tired of those genres, they are my favorite, and I love them so much.

The genres I usually stay away from are non-fiction, Si-Fi, and contemporary. I cannot stand most books from those genres. I have only read two contemporary books from beginning to end this year and actually liked them and those books where Stay With Me by Paul Griffin and You Against Me by Jenny Downham. I haven't read a single book from the Non-fiction or Si-Fi genre this year.

You Against me by Jenny Downham

Grade: 4.5 Butterflies
Name: You Against Me
Author: Jenny Downham
Released: December 2nd 2010
Publisher: David Fickling
Page Amount: Hardcover, 413 pages

Goodreads summary

If someone hurts your sister and you're any kind of man, you seek revenge, right? If your brother's been accused of a terrible crime and you're the main witness, then you banish all doubt and defend him. Isn't that what families do? When Mikey's sister claims a boy assaulted her at a party, his world of work and girls begins to fall apart. When Ellie's brother is charged with the crime, but says he didn't do it, her world of revision, exams and fitting in at a new school begins to unravel. When Mikey and Ellie meet, two worlds collide. Brave and unflinching, this is a novel of extraordinary skillfulness and almost unbearable tension. It's a book about loyalty and the choices that come with it. But above all it's a book about love - for one's family and for another.

                                             *****************************

My thoughts

This book is about a very tricky subject. This book is about the aftermath of a fifteen year old girl getting raped. The book starts after the girl contacts the police and tells them what happened. So, if you don't like reading books with that in it then maybe don't read this book. However, the author did a really good job writing this book, because I read nothing that seemed offensive. At least, that was my impression, I don't know how you would take it, but that was my impression.

I was blown away with this book, it was so good. This is the kind of book that captivates you from the first page and leaves you thinking about it well after you finished it.

The POV (point of view) switches between Mikey, the brother of the girl, and Ellie, the sister of the brother who is being accused of doing it. This book is about Ellie deciding what is more important, family or doing what is right. For Mikey it is about him just coping with what happened and him trying to figure out how to help his sister.

The plot in this book was so captivating that I never wanted to put it down. I stayed up way to late just so I can finish it. This book also took me on a roller-coaster of emotions, from sadness on one page to happiness on the next page, to anger and frustration on another page. The only bad thing about this book was it ended with a few loose ends and I don't like that when the book is a stand-alone.

Mikey and Ellie where really great characters and I really loved the author's writing style, because I got in Ellie's and Mikey's head and understood the decisions they made. I didn't always agree with their decisions, but I understood them.

One of my favorite things about this book was the relationship between Ellie and Mikey, because  it felt very realistic and just real. There are so many books where the main relationship felt forced. Like the author just wanted to have a relationship in the book, so the author just threw one in. It wasn't like that in this book, at all, their relationship felt real and very sweet. What probably made it so real was that they never said to each other or themselves, that they love each other. To many times in books I read where the two main characters say that they love each other, even though they knew each other for three weeks.

This book gets....
4.5 Butterflies
Beautiful, this is a great book.

Recommended if you like Contemporary, really sweet romance, and a great plot.
However, if you don't like books that deal with the issue of rape, then don't read this book.

That is my review, I hope you liked it.

Q: What book do you think would make a great Halloween movie? Please explain in graphic detail of goriness...

I am sad to say that I haven't really read any scary books, at all. The closest I got to reading a scary book was when I read the first page from Anna Dressed In Blood in the book store. I just don't like scary books for some reason.  I will watch scary movies, I just won't read the book.

That is my answer, what was your answer??

Poison Princess by Kresley Cole

Grade: 4.5 Butterflies
Name: Poison Princess (The Arcana Chronicles #1)
Author: Kresley Cole
Released: October 2nd 2012
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers
Page Amount: 384 pages

Goodreads summary

#1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole introduces The Arcana Chronicles, post-apocalyptic tales filled with riveting action, the dark mysticism of Tarot cards, and breathtaking romance.

She could save the world—or destroy it.

Sixteen year old Evangeline “Evie” Greene leads a charmed life, until she begins experiencing horrifying hallucinations. When an apocalyptic event decimates her Louisiana hometown, Evie realizes her hallucinations were actually visions of the future—and they’re still happening. Fighting for her life and desperate for answers, she must turn to her wrong-side-of-the-bayou classmate: Jack Deveaux.

But she can’t do either alone.

With his mile-long rap sheet, wicked grin, and bad attitude, Jack is like no boy Evie has ever known. Even though he once scorned her and everything she represented, he agrees to protect Evie on her quest. She knows she can’t totally depend on Jack. If he ever cast that wicked grin her way, could she possibly resist him?

Who can Evie trust?

As Jack and Evie race to find the source of her visions, they meet others who have gotten the same call. An ancient prophesy is being played out, and Evie is not the only one with special powers. A group of twenty-two teens has been chosen to reenact the ultimate battle between good and evil. But it’s not always clear who is on which side….

                                                     ************************

My thoughts

This book was amazing!! Everything about this book was great, the plot was so unique and great, the characters where wonderful (even though Evie got a little annoying here and there) and the writing was awe inspiring.
The plot was fast paced and had a lot of suspense. I never got bored when I was reading it this book, not one time, because there was always something going on, from people trying to kill Evie and Jack, to Evie trying to find out more of what is happening with the tarot cards. I can't wait for the second one, because this book set up a lot for the second book and this book's ending left me with so many questions.

The only problem I had with the plot was before the apocalyptic event (or the Flash). Evie was in high school and she had all these problems and it was weird, because as I was reading that part, I could see what would have happened if the Flash never did. It would have been like a lot of other books; girl struggling with this paranormal ability, meets hot guy, girl and hot guy start to like each other, guy finds out about her ability, guy helps her to find out why she has that ability and they fall in love. So, that was really weird to read and I don't know why that happened, maybe because the whole apocalyptic event thing felt a little out of place with the setting and the main character, but towards the middle and end that went away and I was glad the author put it in the book, because it added a lot more to the plot.

The characters in this book are really great; I loved them all, even the supporting characters. Evie was a really great character, but right after the flash she felt out of place to me, maybe because she didn't know anything about how to survive. After a while that went away, because she slowly turned from spoiled princess to a girl that can survive on her own. Great character development there. However, in the beginning Evie got a little annoying with her naiveness, but you can't blame her.

Now Jack was a great character and what I loved most about him was how he always felt protective over Evie. Even when she got annoying he was always protecting her, it was really sweet to read. Don't get me wrong, he is the ultimate bad boy, just a protective bad boy.
Here's a question to everyone who already read this book, am I the only one who was disappointed at Jack for what he did in the way end????? When I read it I was so shocked because I didn't think he would do that!! I had to read that part three times for it to click in my mind that he really did it.

The relationship between Evie and Jack is one of the best I have read. There constant push and pull attitude they had for each other and their constant bickering that would turn into a sweet moment. It was really great to read.

Overall, this is a great book and first book in a series. The ending left me stunned and I can't wait for the second one. This book had everything suspense, mystery, a really great romance, phenomenal writing, great characters, and one of the most unique plots I have read. If you are looking for a good book to read, read this book because it is great.
