Q: What is the BIGGEST word you've seen used in a book lately - that made you stop and look it up? Might as well leave the definition & book too.

I can't remember the last time I looked up a word. Even if I did see a word I didn't know in a book. Most of the time I can understand a little bit of what it means be reading the rest of the sentence, or the surrounding sentences. I will every now and again look up a word if it keeps bothering me after I put the book down, but I haven't done it in a while.
What about you???

That is my answer, come back tomorrow for a new Stacking The Shelves.
Happy reading.

Fire by Kristen Cashore

Grade: 5 Butterflies
Name: Fire (Graceling Realm #2)
Author: Kristin Cashore
Released: October 5th 2009
Publisher: Dial Books
Page Amount: 461 pages

You can read this review if you haven't read Graceling. No spoilers.
Goodreads summary

It is not a peaceful time in the Dells. The young King Nash clings to his throne while rebel lords in the north and south build armies to unseat him. The mountains and forests are filled with spies and thieves and lawless men.

This is where Fire lives. With a wild, irresistible appearance and hair the color of flame, Fire is the last remaining human monster. Equally hated and adored, she had the unique ability to control minds, but she guards her power, unwilling to steal the secrets of innocent people. Especially when she has so many of her own.

Then Prince Brigan comes to bring her to King City, The royal family needs her help to uncover the plot against the king. Far away from home, Fire begins to realize there's more to her power than she ever dreamed. Her power could save the kingdom.

If only she weren't afraid of becoming the monster her father was.

                               *****************************

Background
First off I want to say that you do not have to read Graceling before you read this. It does not matter which way you read them Fire first and Graceling last, or Graceling first and Fire last. It does not matter, because in Graceling there are seven kingdoms and a huge mountain separating the seven kingdoms from the rest off the land and they do not know what is over the mountain. Fire is about the people on the other side of the mountain and about 15 years before the events in Graceling takes place. So, it does not matter which book you read first, because they follow different characters. However, I would highly suggest you read both books before you read the third book in this series Bitterblue.

My thoughts

WOW......just wow........ this book is so awesome!!!!!!!!!! The plot, the characters, and the writing, especially the writing, all of it was just fantastic. Even though I read it about three times, every time I finish it I am just blown away by it.
The plot wasn't really super fast, but it wasn't super slow, it was in the middle and I really liked that about this book. It gave you time to process what you read, but not to much time to process where you get bored. I was never bored in this book, there was always something going on. Even if that something going on was you trying to fiugre out who that weird little boy was. That says a lot about the writing in this book, because Kristin Cashore makes this book interesting even though the pace isn't that fast.
The chararcters in this book where really unique. I am not saying they where bad; the opposite actually, these characters where some of the best I ever read. I am just saying they where a lot different then normal YA characters and I loved that about them. Fire was a great character and her character development was really great and realistic, which I haven't read in a while. They way she is unique is because she is strong, but not strong like most off the female leads in now a day YA where they are good fighters and hate being the damsel in distress and where they have to be saved. Fire isn't any thing like that. She is good with the bow and arrows, but nothing other than that. What really makes her unique though is she doesn't want to know how to fight, but she isn't weak. She has her mental powers. She uses her mental powers to fight.
However, what really made this book for me was the awesome writing and the fantastic world building. Kristin Cashore writes this wonderful world in the perfect way. She doesn't over explain things, but she doesn't under explain things. She does it wonderfully.
Overall, this is a wonderfull book that had a fantastic plot, really great characters, and writing that is some of the best I have ever read.

This book got.....

5 Butterflies
Blew me away, one of the best books ever.

Recommend to everyone, except maybe not guys, becasue it talks about things they don't like.

That's my review, I hope you liked it.
Happy reading

The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting

Grade: 4 Butterflies
Name: The Body Finder (The Body Finder #1)
Author: Kimberly Derting
Released: March 16th 2010
Publisher: HarperTeen
Page Amount: 329 pages

Goodreads summary

Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friend since childhood, she is more disturbed by her "power" to sense dead bodies—or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes that the dead leave behind in the world... and the imprints that attach to their killers.

Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift; it mostly just led her to find the dead birds her cat had tired of playing with. But now that a serial killer has begun terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he's claimed haunt her daily, she realizes she might be the only person who can stop him.

Despite his fierce protectiveness over her, Jay reluctantly agrees to help Violet on her quest to find the murderer—and Violet is unnerved to find herself hoping that Jay's intentions are much more than friendly. But even as she's falling intensely in love, Violet is getting closer and closer to discovering a killer... and becoming his prey herself

                                    ******************************

Background

This book is about a girl named Violet who can sense when bodies are near. Not just any body's, she can only sense dead bodies. Does not matter if there are human or animals, if they were killed she can sense it. Then one day she’s at this end of summer party by a lake and she sense a dead body. What she finds is a dead girl. Shortly afterwards more dead bodies are popping up across the county. Now everyone knows that there is a serial killer out there and it’s up to Violet to stop him.

My thoughts

I love murder mystery books. I don't really know why, I think it might be because every murder mystery is really fast paced and suspenseful. This book was all that and more. The plot in this book is really fast paced but not too fast paced where I could not keep up with it. The whole story line was wonderful. What was really awesome about this book was how every other chapter was told in the killer’s point of view. I got chills when I read the first chapter in his point of view....no actually; I got chills whenever I read in his point of view.

The characters where pretty good, although Violet got on my nerves every now on again. She was just so frustrating, you know that part in the book or movie where you're screaming don't go in the closet, but of course they go in the closet and then ohh... surprise there's the killer. However, the best character in this book was Jay. He was so nice and caring and he supported Violet with everything but trying to catch the killer.

What I really loved in this book was the relationship between Jay and Violet. Even though the book starts out with Violet having a huge crush on Jay, it's not cheesy or like insto love, because they knew each other book for the book starts. I really think that made this relationship from being really cheesy. However, it had its down side, since they know each other before the book began, I did not get to read how the relationship went to just friends to huge super crush. So, I am sorry to say the relationship did not feel real to me, when Violet realizes that she loves Jay I didn't feel like that was real.

However, that was the only bad thing about this book, the best thing about this book was the writing. Kimberly Derting is a fantastic writer. I love her writing style and I love all of her books. She is just awesome.

All in all this was a really good book that had a suspenseful plot, characters that where really good, and a writing style that was brilliant.

This book got...

Q: What hyped up book was worth all of the fuss?

For me that would have to be Delirium by Lauren Oliver. I heard so much many great things about this book and when I picked it up I figured out that they where all right. The plot was so unique and fantastic, the characters where wonderful, and the writing was so captivating. I fell in love with this book not even half way though it. It's so awesome.

Come back tommorow for a new stacking the shelves.
Happy reading.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger... and they know it.

My thoughts

This was an enchanted story that captivated me from page one and left me thinking about it for weeks after. The plot was fast paced but not overly where it got confusing. I was never confused unless the author wanted me to. The plot also had many twists and turns that I did not see coming. The story was so brilliantly written, the author is now one of my favorites of all time. The characters where very enjoyable. The only problem in this whole book was I could not connect with any of the characters. Don't get my wrong. The characters where good, I just could not connect with them. As many of you know, if I can not not connect with the characters then the book isn't as good. However, with this book the plot and writing where so good I didn't care. Overall, this was a really great book that I will remember far after I read it.

This book got....

4 Butterflies
Beloved, This is a really good book.

Recommended if you like plot and writing, this book might not be as good if you like characters better than the plot and writing.

                                          ******************************

My thoughts

First off, I want to say that I was really disappointed with this book. I have heard so many glowing reviews for this book. So, naturally I was really excited to read this book and when I read the summary I expected it be about this evil commander who lets his people suffer, these two people go against him, they flee so he won't killed them, and they build a army and declare war or something along those lines.
It didn't live up to my expectations, it wasn't even close.

The plot had so much potential, but sadly the author couldn't do it good. It felt really choppy in a lot of places and the flow of the plot was really bad. The author wanted to get to a certain point, but the way she went from point A and to point B felt really unrealistic. Besides that, the plot was good. It was really suspenseful and there were a lot of twists and turns that I did not see coming.

However, I for some reason could not get into this book. It's like I didn't care what happened and sadly, I think it was because of the characters. Some of the characters had the same problem as the plot. It was like the author wanted the character to be like this in the beginning and the character to be like this at the ending. The way the author went about doing that felt really unrealistic. So, the character development in this book was really choppy.

Now the characters themselves, some I liked and some I didn't. One of my favorite characters in this book was Logan. I felt he was really down to earth and realistic. He also did something a lot of characters in this book didn't do and that was stop and think. He thought about what he can and should do, which I really liked about his character. Even though he was a really enjoyable character I for some reason could not connect with him. Which is a really big thing for me. It doesn't matter if I liked the character; if I connected with them, it was fine. Same thing if I liked a character, but I didn't connect with them, then I wouldn't like the book as much.

Now on to Rachel. I could go on and on about her but to keep it short, I didn't like her. I thought she was a stupid, naive, spoiled brat. I know she went though a lot, but you would think if a person went though what she did they would gain some wisdom. Rachel didn't. At the end, she kind of did, but not  much.  She was also very naive and spoiled in the way where she thought everything would be alright, which you can't really blame her for, but what really made me mad at her, was the way she took no one else's life into consideration. She thought she was saving every one, but she didn't stop to consider if the course of action she wanted to take would hurt or kill someone else. Again I didn't really connect with Rachel.

Last thing I want to say is how disappointed I was with how the author wrote the world. In the summary you are led to believe that life is awful, but the way the author writes the book I don't really see the awfulness. I saw how bad the commander was, but not how awful every one's life was.

Q: What hyped up book do you think was not worth all the talk?

For me that would have to be the Tiger's Curse series. I have heard so many good things about this book and it seemed that everyone who read it loved the series. So, I got it and it was so disappointing. I couldn't even finish the book. I thought the love was cheesy and the characters where so unrealistic and the plot was sooooooo slow. I got to page 280 and barley anything happened. I don't see what all the hype was about.

My thoughts

I really enjoyed this book. I really love Greek Mythology, so this book was right up my alley. Although, it was a little bit slow in the beginning, but the pacing got better through out the rest of the book. The overall plot was fantastic. This book had a few twists and turns and most of them I did not see coming. I say most, because I got spoiled with the very last twist and I am really sad about that because I didn't get the full reading experience.

This book had one of the best plot lines I have read and the author did it so well. I was afraid when I started reading this, because there are so many ways to write Greek mythology wrong, and so little ways to write it well. Aimee Carter did it perfectly; there wasn't a moment in this book where I stopped and thought to myself "this is so cheesy and bad". I now just really love her writing, I think she is a wonderful writer.

The characters in this book where alright. I thought that the main character Kate was very brave to do what she did and the kind of love she has for her mother was such a nice thing to read. You know what I mean, there aren't many YA books that I have seen, where the main part of the plot was about how much a daughter loves her mother and I just feel that YA needs more books with that in it.
I thought Henry was a little bit boring and one dimensional. It was like he was just there and nothing more. I couldn't connect with his character because it was like he had no emotions; it was really weird.

Over all, this was a really great book with a plot that captivated me from the beginning, with a writer that I am now a huge fan of, and characters that where decent.
